This cartoon is how people think the sports world is. They see men winning awards and holding trophies where as women don’t win or aren’t interesting enough. The cartoon pretty much speaks for itself. Female athletes are overlooked, overworked, and under paid. I have started to be more aware of this and have seen how this perception people have of female athletes is portrayed in my everyday life. Whether its during PE class when my teacher is pushing baseball players to lift heavier weights and do more reps, while telling the girls to “take it easy”. Or when I was playing for the super-sectional championship and there wasn’t even enough fans to fill the small set of stands. I know personally that female athletes can excel under the pressure and excitement of a crowd. Having that feeling of everyone watching your team succeed, all the cheering, all of the hallway walks, and feeling like your sport is more than just another sport for girls is the best feeling in the world.
