Tonight at my hitting lesson, I was talking to my coach about how my week was last week. I was telling her about school and she asked if I had a paper to write for my English class. I had told her that I had already written it and now get to do a blog relating to my topic I picked. When I told her what topic I picked the first thing she asked was, “Did you use the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team as an example?” She was right, I did use this example. I’m telling this story to prove that many people know that the discrimination against female athletes is going on and has an example that comes to mind when it is mentioned. Getting the word out is the first step. A lot of times getting the word out is all people do. More needs to be done. Female athletes need to be paid more, offered more sports related jobs, be treated fairly and not as sub par to male athletes, and recognized for their successes. There is a lot of things companies, and others can do. Companies can make a point to include more equipment, apparel, and opportunities for women’s sports. Going into a sports store and seeing posters of female athletes makes me smile. I just want to be a part in bringing that same smile to other peoples faces by trying to make a difference in women’s sports.
