Growing up I would love to sit with my dad and watch the Olympics. Watching all of the different sports was interesting because they were sports you don’t get to watch everyday. Playing softball since I was little made me wonder why we never got to watch softball in the Olympics. I was too young to understand how the Olympics worked and how not every sport was a part of the Olympics every 4 years. I just knew that softball was never in them anytime my dad and I watched the Olympics. Today, I follow and lot of softball players on social media and I think it is super cool getting to follow along all of their journeys with different countries preparing for softball to finally be back in the Olympics in 2020. The Team USA softball team has been very successful when playing in Olympic trials and in other countries and yet softball wasn’t renewed to be in the Olympics again after 2020. All of the hard work and fight it took to get softball back in it just for one Olympic games is sad. The athletes put so much time and effort into preparing, training, and practicing to bring home a gold medal to their country. Softball has been becoming more and more popular in recent years so I think for the committee to just shut down softball in the Olympics is wrong. It gives people the impression that softball isn’t a competitive sport and shouldn’t be played and represent our country. I hope Team USA wins the gold in the 2020 Olympics and we find a way to keep softball in the Olympics.
